Job Description

Reporting directly to the Accounting Manager, we are seeking a Senior Property Accountant to join our client's  fast-paced team. The successful candidate will support a dedicated portfolio of properties, working closely with the group of companies and finance teams as they continue to grow. This role involves full-cycle accounting responsibilities, supporting the daily accounting functions for the property operations team within a diversified real estate asset management group.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for full-cycle property accounting for a portfolio of properties and consolidated corporate entities.
  • Assist with monthly and quarterly financial and management reporting.
  • Oversee and maintain the general ledger for a group of companies and property portfolios.
  • Perform month-end accounting entries, ensuring accuracy in transactions, subledgers, and maintenance of corporate workbooks.
  • Post monthly recurring entries, including mortgages, pre-payments, property taxes, expense accruals, deferred financing costs, and related party transactions.
  • Record asset acquisitions, mortgage and refinancing entries, as well as property acquisition and disposition transactions.
  • Complete reconciliations for balance sheet accounts, including bank accounts and credit cards.
  • Handle Accounts Receivable tasks such as processing payments, creating and posting intercompany invoices, and ensuring accurate tenant transaction records.
  • Assist Accounts Payable with property-related expenses.
  • Support the implementation of accounting changes and process improvements.
  • Contribute to ad-hoc projects in collaboration with the Accounting Manager.
  • Prepare and file HST returns and payments for all corporations, ensuring compliance with CRA deadlines.

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance, real estate and/or related field
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in accounting, preferably in the real estate industry and/or
    fund management
  • Professional Accounting Designation (CPA-CA, CGA, CMA) or actively enrolled in the CPA
    program (midway through or nearing completion) is an asset
  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask and work under pressure.
  • Dedicated team player with a positive attitude and the flexibility to get the job done.
