About the Opportunity

This is a critical, high-impact opportunity for a senior mathematician or statistician to lead the design and integrity of a funding prioritization formula for a public sector client. You will play a pivotal role in creating a transparent, defensible, and policy-aligned formula that determines funding priorities and ceilings across more than 60 organizations. Your work will directly influence how resources are allocated, ensuring fairness, accuracy, and alignment with organizational objectives.

In this role, you will collaborate with data analysts, Excel architects, and other stakeholders to refine the formula and interpret results. Your ability to translate complex mathematical and statistical logic into plain language will be essential, as you communicate findings to non-technical audiences and provide recommendations that drive real-world impact. This is an exciting chance to combine technical expertise with strategic influence in a meaningful public sector context.

What’s in it for You

You will join a flexible, collaborative environment where your insights and expertise are valued. This role offers exposure to high-level decision-making processes, the opportunity to work on a critical project from start to finish, and the satisfaction of seeing your work directly shape funding outcomes. You will also benefit from a culture that celebrates transparency, innovation, and professional growth while allowing you to manage your schedule in a part-time or flexible capacity.

Your Responsibilities

  • You’ll lead the design and refinement of the core funding prioritization formula.
  • You’ll develop indexes, weighting logic, and normalization methods to ensure results are robust and defensible.
  • You’ll test for sensitivity, bias, and edge cases, and interpret outputs to propose ranking logic.
  • You’ll recommend funding ceilings and amounts and develop scoring logic for merit-based assessment criteria.
  • You’ll collaborate with analysts and stakeholders to ensure the formula is transparent, policy-aligned, and easily explainable to non-technical audiences.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in mathematics, statistics, or quantitative analysis.
  • Proven experience designing defensible models for public or policy-based funding decisions.
  • Strong ability to test for bias, perform sensitivity analysis, and explain complex logic in plain language.
  • Comfortable working with data analysts, Excel architects, and other technical teams.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a people-first mindset.
