About the Opportunity
Are you a detail-oriented payroll professional who thrives in a structured, high-volume environment? In this role, you’ll be part of a collaborative team supporting payroll for a large, unionized workforce. You’ll help ensure employees are paid accurately and on time, while maintaining compliance with organizational policies, collective agreements and government regulations.
You’ll work closely with internal teams, department managers, and employees, providing guidance on time and attendance processes and payroll questions. This role offers exposure to enterprise payroll systems, complex payroll scenarios, and the chance to influence process improvements in a people-focused environment.
This role is open to all qualified candidates; however, preference may be given to individuals who identify as First Nations, Inuit or Métis and or/have experience working with First Nations, Inuit or Métis communities. The final hiring decision will be based on merit.

Your Responsibilities
- You’ll process exception hourly earnings, benefits, tax adjustments, and retroactive pay, ensuring accurate payroll for over 1000 employees.
- You’ll track and maintain leave balances, conduct bi-weekly audits, and ensure compliance with organizational and union policies.
- You’ll create and maintain employee profiles in the payroll system, including work groups, time codes, and schedules.
- You’ll support configuration, testing, and implementation of new earnings and deduction codes, ensuring operational effectiveness.
- You’ll prepare Records of Employment, calculate off-cycle payroll, and process final payouts related to terminations, leaves, or severances.
- You’ll respond to payroll inquiries, providing training and guidance to employees and managers with tact and discretion.
Skills and Qualifications
- 2+ years of payroll experience using enterprise systems (PeopleSoft, SAP, JD Edwards).
- Knowledge of payroll legislation, accounting principles, and unionized payroll environments.
- Experience working with or supporting First Nations, Inuit, or Métis communities is a strong asset
- Experience with time and attendance systems is an asset.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Ability to analyze payroll data, exercise judgment, and handle sensitive information.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with attention to detail.
