Job Description
Reporting directly to the Controls Engineering Manager, the Engineering Specialist will join our client’s Engineering team, focusing on the design and installation of control systems for Industrial Irradiators. This role includes significant international travel (approximately 40-60 days per year) to customer sites for overseeing installations and providing essential on-site supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Control System Design and Installation: Develop and implement control systems for Industrial Irradiators, typically comprising PLC and SCADA systems with SQL Server components.
- Customer Interaction: Collaborate with customers to understand and document requirements, design control systems, and manage the specification, programming, simulation, testing, start-up assistance, and after-sales support.
- International Travel: Travel internationally (approximately 10% of the role) to customer sites for installation supervision and support.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience: 8-10 years of relevant experience in industrial automation, including:
- Allen Bradley Guardlogix PLC logic and programming
- Wonderware HMI/SCADA programming
- SQL Server database management
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in motor and drives applications, including encoders, VFDs, and servo drives.
- Certification: P. Eng certification is required.
Skills and Competencies:
- Leadership and Project Management: Self-motivated with strong leadership abilities and project management skills.
- Technical Communication: Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
- Project Execution: Proficient in planning, scheduling, executing, and delivering internal and external projects.
- Time Management: Superior ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining focus on priorities.
- Reporting: Prepare and distribute technical reports, detailing results and conclusions.
- Technical Guidance: Provide technical guidance and conduct technical reviews of projects.
- Independent Work: Ability to work independently and make complex decisions outside standard practices and procedures.
- Continuous Learning: Stay updated on new developments in the field and incorporate them as appropriate.
- Quality Systems: Experience with quality systems such as ISO 9000.
- Safety Knowledge: Knowledge of machinery safety is an asset.
