Job Description
Our leading healthcare client is looking for a Standards Specialist to join their team on a permanent basis. You would be part of a larger healthcare project regarding Interoperability in the nation.
Responsibilities:
- Provide expertise and support for digital health standards (SNOMED CT, LOINC, HL7 V2/v3, CDA, FHIR) to assist stakeholder implementations.
- Develop and update processes for incorporating approved vaccines into SNOMED CT CA, including international vaccines.
- Manage the addition, modification, and removal of SNOMED CT concepts and identifiers according to Infoway’s guidelines and Canadian Editorial Guidelines.
- Ensure the Immunization and General Canadian Editorial Guidelines are current with the latest standards.
- Quality-assure each CA Edition Release of the guidelines.
- Propose adjustments to meet SNOMED CT International and Canadian Edition modeling standards.
- Coordinate the publication and versioning of pan-Canadian subsets on the Terminology Gateway in English and French.
- Engage with the community regularly to review and monitor processes and increase participation in maintenance activities.
- Lead monthly InfoCentral Public Health Surveillance community meetings to communicate request statuses, seek support for options, and provide guidance on SNOMED CT terms for vaccines in both official languages.
- Manage relationships and governance with NACI, VVWG, provinces, territories, NVC, and other stakeholders to support the standards development lifecycle for immunization content.
- Aid in the development, implementation, testing, training, and maintenance of Infoway tools.
- Develop standards-related deliverables to support the Interoperability Roadmap, ensuring alignment with guidance and other materials in collaboration with Product Owners.
Education:
- Undergraduate degree or diploma in Business Administration, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field required.
- MBA or MSc is preferred.
- SNOMED CT Authoring Certification and FHIR certification are advantageous.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Strong knowledge of SNOMED CT, LOINC, UCUM, ICD, and HL7 code systems.
- Experience with standard terminologies and Canadian Immunization guidelines in Public Health Surveillance.
- Over 5 years of experience with Reference Terminology Standards and at least 3 years in Canadian Public Health.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and conflict management skills.
- Familiarity with terminology management tools like InfoRMS.
- Understanding of current clinical practice standards.
- Strong problem-solving, adaptability, attention to detail, and analytical skills.
- Bilingual in English and French is a significant asset.
- Ability to work well within a collaborative, multi-functional team.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
