Dock Shift Supervisor
Our client is to hire a driven Dock Shift Supervisor to lead day-to-day dock operations during assigned shifts. This hands-on leadership role is essential to ensuring safe, accurate, and efficient freight handling in a fast-paced logistics environment. You’ll play a key role in supporting a high-performance team and driving operational excellence across our clients warehouse and yard operations.
Key Responsibilities
Lead shift-based dock operations, ensuring timely loading and unloading of freight for inbound and outbound movements.
Promote and maintain a strong safety culture; monitor compliance and conduct regular safety checks and toolbox talks.
Track and analyze shift performance against key operational KPIs such as safety, freight accuracy, labor efficiency, and service timelines.
Generate and present shift reports detailing performance metrics, operational challenges, and recommended improvements.
Supervise, support, and develop dock team members including Forklift Operators, Material Handlers, and Lead Hands.
Partner with Dispatch and Terminal Management to optimize workflow, resource allocation, and service delivery.
Manage staffing and shift scheduling to ensure proper coverage during peak periods and volume surges.
Assist in onboarding, training, and mentoring new staff; actively support succession planning for key roles.
Ensure accurate documentation, inventory reconciliation, equipment checks, and overall dock organization.
Serve as a liaison for internal teams including Planning, Dispatch, Customs, and US Operations to resolve issues quickly and maintain service continuity.
Proven leadership experience in a warehouse or dock operations role, preferably within transportation or logistics.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills; capable of motivating and directing a diverse workforce.
Hands-on experience with dock and yard equipment; forklift certified.
Familiarity with logistics software (TMS/WMS such as TMW, SAP, or similar) and intermediate MS Office skills.
A proactive, safety-focused mindset with strong attention to process efficiency and accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of experience in logistics, warehouse, or transportation operations, including 2+ years in a supervisory capacity.
Demonstrated success managing high-volume freight operations and achieving operational KPIs.
Formal training or certification in logistics, transportation, or supply chain (e.g., CITT, P.Log, APICS).
Bilingual communication skills (e.g., English/Spanish or French/English) considered an asset.
