Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced HR Consultant to join our client's team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in developing and supporting comprehensive disability management strategies and accommodations to support employees with disabilities or other protected grounds.
This individual will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations, while also promoting an inclusive and accessible workplace culture.
This position is a 1-year part time contract with a possibility of extension.
Responsibilities:
- Provide expert guidance and support in disability management, including crafting workplace accommodations for various protected grounds (physical or psychological disabilities, religious accommodations, family status accommodations, etc.).
- Develop employee wellness strategy and support preventative mental health initiatives
- Develop and manage graduated return-to-work plans for employees returning from occupational and non-occupational illness or injury, ensuring a smooth transition and appropriate support throughout the process.
- Collaborate with union representatives and other relevant stakeholders to implement accommodations and graduated return-to-work plans programming within a unionized environment, fostering positive working relationships and compliance with collective agreements.
- Advise and educate internal teams on the employer's duty to accommodate and employee accessibility matters, including knowledge of relevant third-party proceedings such as Workers' Compensation Appeal Tribunal, Human Rights Tribunal, or other jurisdictional Human Rights Commissions in Canada.
- Stay informed of updates and changes in disability management legislation, regulations, and best practices, and proactively recommend adjustments to policies and procedures as needed to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
- Conduct training sessions and workshops for employees and managers to promote awareness and understanding of disability management principles and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Formalized training and/or education in Disability Management or a related field
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Unionized environment is required
- Experience working with HRIS
- Proven hands-on experience crafting workplace accommodations for protected grounds, including physical or psychological disabilities, religious accommodations, family status accommodations, etc.
- Demonstrated experience creating and managing graduated return-to-work plans for both occupational and non-occupational illness or injury cases.
- Experience working in accommodations and graduated return-to-work plans programming within a unionized environment, with a strong understanding of collective agreements and labor relations.
- Thorough knowledge of the employer's duty to accommodate and relevant third-party proceedings
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and navigate complex situations with sensitivity and tact.
