Job Description

Altis Recruitment is grateful to have the opportunity to partner an organization within the Broader Public Sector to support the recruitment of a Compensation consultant within the education industry, located in Guelph.  This is a permanent opportunity with a hybrid working model (2 days on site).

Reporting to the Manager, Compensation, the successful candidate will be providing support for salary administration, and advising on metrics and data anlaysis, and job evaluation.  The ideal candidate will hold experience working within a unionized environment. 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Overseeing job evaluation and compensation programs, the position classification process, and managing various compensation-related projects to align with organizational goals.
  • Facilitating joint job evaluation committees within the organization to ensure effective collaboration and decision-making.
  • Providing detailed analysis and recommendations on complex compensation matters, offering valuable insights to guide decision-making.
  • Collaborating with HR team members to support departmental organizational restructuring, providing expertise in job evaluation, job design, and subsequent compensation adjustments.
  • Assisting in the establishment of new compensation and position management processes, as well as data reporting capabilities from the upcoming HRMS system implementation.
  • Conducting thorough quantitative and qualitative analyses of the organization's compensation programs to maintain internal equity, external competitiveness, and legislative compliance.
  • Providing analytical and advisory support regarding total compensation best practices, program design options, and costing for collective bargaining purposes.
  • Supporting the organization in effectively managing people data and metrics.

Requirements

  • University degree combined with demonstrated experience in job evaluation and compensation programs, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working in a unionized environment
  • Essential comprehension of compensation principles, job evaluation tools, methodologies, human resources policies/procedures, including the Pay Equity Act, Employment Equity Act, Federal Contractors Program requirements, and related legislation.
  • Proven capability to interpret and apply legislation, collective agreements, employment contracts, and other technical documents.
  • Strategic and critical thinking skills, demonstrating the ability to exercise sound judgment, analyze and interpret data, and articulate information clearly, concisely, and professionally.
  • Outstanding communication skills, adept at managing sensitive matters with a high level of diplomacy, sensitivity, and confidentiality.
