Senior Manager, FP&A
Our client, a Crown Corporation in the Broader Public Sector, is looking to hire a Senior Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis to play a key role in enhancing the operational effectiveness and financial success of the organization. This involves overseeing the development of extended financial strategies, leading critical financial processes like Budgeting & Forecasting and Management Reporting. The Senior Manager, FP&A actively promotes predictability, accountability, and comprehensive analysis across the business.
This is a 5.5 month contract position based in Toronto on a hybrid basis (3 days per week on-site).
Responsibilities:
Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Collaborate closely with senior Finance leaders and business executives across the organization to formulate strategic plans, annual and long-term budgets, and monthly forecasts.
- Identify, assess, and address risks and opportunities affecting business outcomes.
- Manage and implement monthly rolling cash flow forecasts for utilization by the senior leadership team.
Management Reporting:
- Develop and optimize internal and external reporting processes to enhance leadership visibility into company and industry performance.
- Generate standard weekly and monthly reports for management, including comprehensive revenue and cost analyses, conducting budget reviews (actual vs. budget), forecasting, and business analytics.
- Support the transition of FP&A planning, reporting, and analytics to the FP&A tool, identifying ongoing needs for platform development.
Business Partnering to Support Strategic Decision Making:
- Provide analytical perspectives and executive financial summaries to facilitate strategic decisions, encompassing changes in strategy and capital/operational investments.
- Cultivate strategic business partnerships with functional and departmental leaders, effectively communicating financial and operational impacts in language relevant to business leaders.
- Recommend, develop, and implement policies and processes guiding the organization to maintain and enhance its competitive position and profitability.
People Leadership:
- Collaborate with HR to recruit, develop, and motivate a highly skilled team of professionals.
- Cultivate a culture of innovation, transparency, and accountability within the department and across the organization.
- Ensure the team possesses the competence and skills required for executing business-critical projects, partnering with L&D to create learning plans.
- Foster continuous innovation and communication among team members, overseeing their development and improvement while providing relevant updates to both the team and other business partners.
- Supervise the department, including other staff members, ensuring timely delivery of initiatives and continuous improvement.
Ad Hoc:
- Optimize processes by leveraging technology to deliver more timely financial information.
- Identify and execute ad hoc analytical projects that deepen business insight and contribute value to the organization.
Qualifications:
- Completion of post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. MBA or Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
- CPA Designation
- At least 7 years of progressive experience in financial planning and analysis, including a minimum of 4 years in a managerial role leading a team of finance professionals.
- Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics and/or a dedicated CPM planning tool (e.g., Oracle, Cognos, OneStream).
- Exceptional Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to establish strong working relationships and gain confidence and acceptance from all levels of management and staff throughout the organization.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize duties.
- Robust interest, aptitude, and experience in critical and complex analytical work, creative thinking, and problem-solving to provide professional analysis and recommendations.
