Job Description

Our client in the construction industry is looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to join their team. In this position you will take charge of controlling, planning, analyzing, measuring, and reporting on the finance and accounting functions across all operational entities within the company. Your role will extend beyond conventional responsibilities to provide leadership and mentorship in refining processes and procedures, actively contributing to ongoing process improvement initiatives.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop cash flow projections
  • Participate in weekly and monthly meetings with the president to present updates on cash flow and overall company performance, comparing actual results to the budget
  • Engage in monthly budget meetings with managers and relevant stakeholders
  • Facilitate project financing arrangements
  • Coordinate banking financing for individual projects
  • Oversight of project budgets and inputting budget details into the system
  • Analyze offer and profit sheets
  • Record and compare sales, closing, and profit data against budgeted figures for each lot
  • Coordinate the preparation of annual financial statements and oversee the filing of corporate tax returns
  • Track overhead expenses and conduct yearly reviews
  • Oversee Accounts Payable Clerks, providing guidance on cheque runs and assisting in problem resolution
  • Monitor the investment of surplus funds and facilitate fund transfers when needed
  • Input approved offers into spreadsheets for Accounts Payable Clerks
  • Manually verify received and deposited deposits
  • Approve statements of adjustments from solicitors, ensuring accuracy
  • Approve and recode commission-related invoices
  • Prepare GST remittances, covering sales and back-charge costs
  • Approve GST rebate documentation
  • Review invoices prior to cheque printing
  • Prepare monthly wage reimbursements to the management company
  • Process all invoices related to management fees
  • Initiate the setup of new projects
  • Communicate NSF cheques or deposit issues to the Project Manager
  • Establish and monitor company goals
  • Optimize returns by investing excess funds
  • Ensure the accounting department processes and reports in a timely manner
  • Available to serve as a backup for payroll processing
  • Coordinate and review insurance requirements
  • Facilitate the incorporation of new companies

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • CPA designation
  • Degree in Accounting or similar field
  • 10+ years in low rise construction
  • Strong knowledge of Excel
  • Strong verbal & communication 
  • Strong ability to the ability to perform, manage and direct multiple tasks and lead the finance and admin staff
  • Experience with Newstar program is an asset
