Information and Privacy Advisor
Our client in the Broader Public Sector is seeking an Information and Privacy Advisor to join their team on a 3 month contract in Toronto. This position is working in a hybrid capacity with a requirement to work on site every Wednesday with 1 - 2 additional days per week on site in Downtown Toronto. The successful candiate for this role will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Privacy Principles and related legislation. The role involves a range of responsibilities from providing advice on information management and security to training and involvement in policy development. This individual will be responsible for connecting with the public and processing requests for records as well as offering guidance on appeals and contributing to projects as required. The core hours of work are from 9am - 5pm, 8am - 4pm or 7am - 3pm.
Responsibilities:
- Process FOI requests for records and collaborate with program areas to obtain requested records
- Offer advice and guidance on interpreting and applying FIPPA, Privacy Principles, IPC Orders, and related policies, directives, processes, procedures, and guidelines.
- Provide counsel on information management, security provisions, records collection, use, retention, disclosure, and appeal procedures, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and exemptions.
- Collaborate with program areas to locate requested records, conduct research, and process access requests from various sources.
- Recommend and monitor disclosure decisions, ensuring statutory compliance.
Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and related legislation.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to research, analyze, and provide recommendations on complex legal and regulatory matters.
- Attention to detail and the ability to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
- Experience in policy development and training is a plus.
- Education within Information Sciences is considered an asset
