About the Opportunity
Are you a strategic communications professional who can turn complex initiatives into meaningful stories that inspire action? We're seeking an experienced Communications Consultant to support a community health organization dedicated to advancing health equity, strengthening community connections and delivering accessible, inclusive services to diverse populations.
This opportunity centres on two high-impact projects: building awareness and engagement around a new three-year strategic plan and amplifying the progress of an innovative homelessness and addictions initiative. You'll combine senior-level communications expertise with hands-on execution, helping bring important stories to life while navigating complex stakeholder relationships and sensitive public issues.
What's In It for You
• Make a meaningful impact through communications that advance health equity, anti-racism and community well-being.
• Enjoy a flexible, primarily remote contract with the opportunity to shape two highly visible initiatives.
• Collaborate directly with senior leadership and contribute your expertise in a values-driven, community-focused environment.
• Take ownership of strategic planning and creative execution, from initial messaging through public engagement.
Your Responsibilities
• You'll develop and execute a communications and engagement plan to introduce a new strategic plan to employees, board members, community partners and other stakeholders.
• You'll create compelling, accessible messaging, content and communications tools that build understanding and encourage participation.
• You'll lead public-facing communications for a homelessness and addictions initiative, highlighting its progress, impact and community stories.
• You'll develop content across digital channels, including websites, social media, publications and reports.
• You'll navigate politically sensitive issues and complex stakeholder environments with sound judgment and a thoughtful, nonjudgmental approach.
• You'll establish practical measures to evaluate communications effectiveness and engagement.
Skills and Qualifications
• Senior-level experience developing and executing strategic communications plans, ideally within healthcare, non-profit or community-based organizations.
• Demonstrated expertise in equity-centred communications, anti-racism, anti-oppression and Indigenous cultural safety.
• Strong content strategy, storytelling, brand alignment and plain-language writing skills.
• Experience with change management communications, issues management and politically sensitive initiatives.
• Knowledge of AODA accessibility guidelines and inclusive communications practices.
• Ability to develop communications evaluation measures and translate strategic priorities into actionable deliverables.
• Familiarity with Ontario's healthcare, community services or public policy environment, with the ability to work independently and deliver results quickly.
