About the Opportunity
Join a highly specialized engineering environment supporting complex mechanical systems used within Canada’s nuclear energy sector. This is an opportunity to contribute to the design and development of equipment that supports safe, reliable energy production and other critical applications. Working closely with Mechanical Engineers, Technologists, Designers, manufacturing teams and project stakeholders, you’ll contribute throughout the project lifecycle, from concept and detailed design through manufacturing, testing and operational support. Your work will help turn technical requirements into practical, manufacturable solutions.
What’s In It for You
You’ll gain exposure to technically challenging projects in a highly regulated industry, while collaborating with experienced multidisciplinary engineering teams. This environment values creativity, continuous improvement, attention to quality and innovative problem solving, with opportunities to strengthen your expertise in mechanical design, manufacturing and nuclear industry standards.
Your Responsibilities
- You’ll develop, model and draft mechanical designs for automated and semi-automated equipment using 2D and 3D CAD tools.
- You’ll produce and update detailed part drawings, assembly drawings, layouts and bills of material.
- You’ll select mechanical components and apply GD&T, DFMA principles and manufacturability considerations to your designs.
- You’ll provide technical support to Engineering, Procurement and Manufacturing teams throughout project execution.
- You’ll participate in design reviews and customer meetings, presenting technical information and design inputs when required.
- You’ll manage assigned design work against project schedules, budgets, quality requirements and engineering change control processes.
- You’ll identify technical risks, troubleshoot design challenges and support process and technology improvements.
Skills and Qualifications
- Mechanical Engineering Technologist diploma, CET designation or equivalent, combined with related mechanical design experience.
- Hands-on experience with 3D parametric CAD software, preferably SOLIDWORKS or Autodesk Inventor, with AutoCAD experience considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of drafting practices, GD&T, machining principles and manufacturability constraints.
- Experience designing mechanical systems, machine components, welded fabrications or assemblies.
- Familiarity with engineering change control and PDM systems for CAD file management is preferred.
- Knowledge of DFMA, CSA Nuclear Codes, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes or CANDU-related engineering environments is an asset.
- Strong problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
