Job Description

Location: Vancouver, BC, On-site during the first 3–6 months, then hybrid with up to 2 days wfh and 3 days in office per week
Language: English, strong written and verbal communication required
Background Check Requirement: Criminal background check and 2 professional references required

About the Opportunity
A well-established and growing regional law firm in British Columbia is seeking a Legal Assistant to support a busy Labour and Employment practice. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity for someone with strong BC litigation experience who enjoys taking ownership of files and staying ahead of deadlines.

You will work closely with lawyers, clients and external stakeholders across employment and labour litigation matters. Experience specifically within Labour and Employment is welcomed but not essential, making this a great opportunity for someone looking to bring experience from commercial, insurance defence, construction, estate or general civil litigation into a new practice area.

What’s In It for You
You will join a collegial, team-oriented firm that values mentorship, professional development and long-term growth. The role offers a salary of $55,000–$75,000, meaningful exposure to litigation matters and the opportunity to build your expertise within Labour and Employment law, with hybrid flexibility available following the initial on-site period.

Your Responsibilities
• You’ll manage litigation files from opening through closing, proactively monitoring deadlines, limitation dates and key milestones
• You’ll prepare, revise and proofread pleadings, affidavits, court forms, correspondence and other legal documents
• You’ll coordinate discoveries, mediations, arbitrations, hearings and trials, including preparing document briefs and books of authorities
• You’ll file and serve court documents while ensuring compliance with BC Supreme Court procedures
• You’ll manage lawyer calendars, appointments and incoming correspondence, anticipating priorities and following up on outstanding items
• You’ll communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court registries, experts and other stakeholders
• You’ll support monthly billing, time entry, expenses, engagement documentation and file-opening processes

Skills and Qualifications
• 2–3+ years of recent Legal Assistant experience, ideally supporting a BC litigation practice
• Strong knowledge of BC Supreme Court Civil Rules, filing requirements and litigation procedures
• Hands-on experience with file management, discoveries and trial preparation
• Labour and Employment experience is an asset, with other civil litigation backgrounds welcomed
• Strong document preparation, proofreading, organization and deadline-management skills
• A proactive mindset with the ability to anticipate lawyer and file needs rather than relying solely on assigned tasks
• Strong communication skills, sound judgment and a client-focused approach

Note from the Hiring Manager
“We’re looking for someone who understands litigation, takes real ownership of their files and thinks ahead. Labour and Employment experience is great, but we’re equally interested in someone with a strong litigation foundation who is excited to learn the practice.”
