Functional analyst

Location: GTA or Montreal, Hybrid, 2 days per week on-site

About the Opportunity
We’re looking for a seasoned, hands-on Functional Data Analyst to support a large-scale data transformation initiative within an enterprise environment. You’ll help bring data from multiple internal and external systems together into a common, governed and consumption-ready data platform.

Sitting at the intersection of business and technology, you’ll work closely with Product Owners, Architects, Data Engineers and Data Quality Engineers. Your analysis will help the team understand what data exists today, what is needed, how it moves between systems and how it can be delivered with clear business meaning and quality standards.

The contract rate is $80–$90/hour.

Your Responsibilities
• You’ll analyze existing systems and data sources to identify available data, gaps and requirements for future-state Data Products.
• You’ll create detailed source-to-target mappings and document data structures, lineage, transformations and system-to-system flows.
• You’ll use SQL and data analysis techniques to validate requirements, investigate data and support data quality activities.
• You’ll partner closely with Data Engineers to clarify requirements and support pipeline development and data engineering practices.
• You’ll define business requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, validation rules and supporting documentation in Jira.
• You’ll collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to support governed, traceable and consumption-ready data.
• You’ll contribute to data contracts, metadata and Data Product practices, with opportunities to build expertise in these areas.

Skills and Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience as a Functional Data Analyst, Data Analyst, Business Analyst or similar data-focused professional.
• Strong hands-on experience with source-to-target mapping, data validation, data quality and complex enterprise data environments.
• Strong SQL knowledge and the ability to analyze and validate data.
• Solid understanding of data lineage, relational data structures and system-to-system data flows.
• Strong communication, facilitation and documentation skills, with experience working across technical and business teams.
• Experience with Jira and Agile delivery methodologies. Salesforce exposure is an asset.
• Knowledge of Data Products, data contracts, BI, analytics or AI is considered an asset.
