Accounting & Payroll Specialist

Location: Toronto, ON, primarily remote with occasional onsite attendance, approximately twice per month
Compensation: $25–$30/hour
Language: Strong written and verbal English communication skills
Duration: 2-month contract, 20 hours per week, with potential for full-time hours, extension, or permanent employment

About the Opportunity

Altis Recruitment is partnering with a member-based regulatory organization to hire an Accounting & Payroll Specialist. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety and wants to play an important role within a small, collaborative finance team.

Working closely with an approachable Finance Manager, you will provide hands-on support across accounting and payroll while helping maintain stability during a period of organizational change. The organization is also preparing to implement a new membership management platform, providing valuable exposure to system implementation and process improvement.

What’s In It for You

You will enjoy a primarily remote schedule, flexible part-time hours, and the opportunity to work independently while remaining closely connected to a supportive manager. For the right candidate, this contract may expand into full-time hours or lead to a longer-term permanent opportunity.

Your Responsibilities

  • You’ll process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions while maintaining complete and accurate financial records.

  • You’ll complete bank and account reconciliations, review bank statements, and prepare journal entries in QuickBooks.

  • You’ll administer biweekly payroll through Ceridian for approximately 100 salaried employees and council members.

  • You’ll serve as a point of contact for payroll-related questions and support employees across Ontario, Alberta, and Quebec.

  • You’ll assist with DocuSign administration and other day-to-day finance processes.

  • You’ll support the financial side of an upcoming membership platform implementation and help improve accounting processes as payments become more automated.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 2–3+ years of experience supporting accounting operations and payroll administration.

  • Hands-on experience with QuickBooks and Ceridian payroll.

  • Knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, journal entries, and payroll processing.

  • Strong technical aptitude, with previous system implementation or process improvement experience considered an asset.

  • Experience within a non-profit, regulatory, association, or member-based organization is an asset.

  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small, lean finance team.
