About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking a Lending Specialist to join their customer-focused team in New Liskeard. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career who enjoys connecting with people, solving problems, and working toward measurable goals.
Previous lending or financial services experience is not required. We’re looking for someone with strong customer instincts, confidence on the phone, and a natural ability to build rapport. Your experience could come from retail, hospitality, restaurants, telecommunications, automotive, banking, fitness, customer service, or another fast-paced environment.
You’ll support customers throughout the lending process, taking the time to understand their financial needs, explain available options, and recommend appropriate solutions. Some conversations may involve customers experiencing financial hardship, so empathy, professionalism, and sound judgment are essential.
What’s in It for You
You’ll join a performance-driven environment where coaching, learning, and continuous improvement are encouraged. You’ll receive support as you develop your knowledge of lending products, policies, and customer solutions.
This is an opportunity to build valuable experience within financial services while developing your sales, relationship management, and customer advisory skills.
Your Responsibilities
- You’ll connect with customers by phone and in person to understand their financial needs and identify appropriate solutions
- You’ll proactively follow up with customers who have submitted applications and manage applications through to completion
- You’ll make a high volume of outbound customer calls, which may include 40–50+ calls per day
- You’ll ask thoughtful questions about customers’ financial circumstances while handling sensitive conversations with empathy and professionalism
- You’ll explain lending options, products, coverage, and applicable terms clearly so customers can make informed decisions
- You’ll identify additional products or services that may appropriately support a customer’s needs
- You’ll maintain timely follow-ups, accurate documentation, and organized customer records
- You’ll work toward individual and branch performance and sales goals
- You’ll support customers experiencing payment challenges and work toward practical solutions within established policies
- You’ll consistently follow lending policies, procedures, and compliance requirements
- You’ll participate in regular coaching and apply feedback to continuously strengthen your performance
Skills and Qualifications
- 1–3 years of customer service, retail, hospitality, sales, call centre, or other customer-facing experience is preferred
- Financial services or lending experience is considered an asset but is not required
- Strong interpersonal skills with a natural ability to build rapport and establish trust with customers
- Comfortable making frequent outbound calls and proactively following up with customers
- Confident discussing sensitive topics, including customers’ financial circumstances and payment challenges
- Customer-focused and empathetic while remaining comfortable recommending and selling appropriate products and solutions
- Motivated by goals, targets, measurable performance, and continuous improvement
- Strong listening, questioning, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Organized and able to manage multiple applications, follow-ups, and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Coachable, adaptable, and willing to apply feedback
- Demonstrated integrity, accountability, and sound judgment when handling confidential customer information
Note from the Hiring Manager
“We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys connecting with people. You don’t need lending experience—we can teach the products and processes. What’s most important is that you’re comfortable picking up the phone, asking the right questions, listening to what customers need, and helping them find a solution while staying motivated by goals and results.”
