Job Description

Location: Toronto, ON, On-site, 5 days per week (Near College Station)

About the Opportunity
This is an opportunity for an experienced Java Developer to contribute to business-critical applications within a large public sector environment. You’ll work on the design, development, integration, and ongoing enhancement of web-based solutions that support important programs and services.

Working alongside technical teams, business partners, and internal stakeholders, you’ll help translate complex requirements into reliable, secure, and accessible applications. This role is well suited to someone who enjoys solving technical challenges, collaborating across teams, and delivering high-quality solutions within an Agile environment.

Your Responsibilities
• You’ll design, configure, integrate, develop, and support n-tier web-based applications using Java and related technologies.
• You’ll build and enhance solutions using Java, J2EE, JSF, HTML/DHTML, XML/XSL, Spring, myBatis, Bootstrap, and jQuery.
• You’ll develop Oracle SQL scripts and work extensively with Oracle databases and relational database management concepts.
• You’ll support responsive, accessible web development, including AODA-compliant solutions and web services.
• You’ll create and maintain reporting functionality using tools such as Jasper.
• You’ll contribute throughout the Agile and iterative SDLC, supporting implementation and maintenance of business-critical systems.
• You’ll collaborate with stakeholders to assess options, recommend solutions, and resolve complex technical challenges.

Skills and Qualifications
• 7+ years of progressive application development experience, ideally supporting complex enterprise environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java, J2EE, JSF, HTML/DHTML, XML/XSL, Spring, myBatis, Bootstrap, and jQuery.
• Demonstrated experience developing n-tier applications using Oracle, Oracle SQL, and RDBMS concepts.
• Experience with web services, responsive front-end development, AODA-compliant solutions, and Jasper reporting.
• Proven experience working within Agile or iterative SDLC environments.
• Previous public sector experience, ideally within a ministry, education, university, or grants-related environment.
• Familiarity with public sector application architecture, GO-ITS standards, Threat Risk Assessments, and Privacy Impact Assessments is an asset.
