About the Opportunity
We’re hiring a Laboratory Assistant for a full-time temporary opportunity within the municipal services sector. Based on-site in Pickering, you’ll play an important role in keeping day-to-day laboratory operations organized, accurate, and responsive while supporting the processing and tracking of samples.
Working alongside laboratory professionals and supporting both internal and external clients, you’ll help ensure samples, records, equipment monitoring, and administrative processes are handled with care. This is a great opportunity to build hands-on experience in a regulated laboratory environment where accuracy, teamwork, and reliable service matter.

Your Responsibilities
• You’ll receive and process laboratory samples using the Lab Information Management System (LIMS) while following applicable regulatory guidelines.
• You’ll respond to customer inquiries and coordinate the shipping and receiving of sampling containers and documentation.
• You’ll monitor and record temperatures for equipment used in sample storage.
• You’ll process financial transactions related to laboratory testing and purchasing activities.
• You’ll ensure processed samples are disposed of according to established laboratory procedures.
• You’ll support general administrative activities, including data entry, documentation, and records management.
Skills and Qualifications
• 6+ months of related work experience, ideally within a laboratory, water quality, or environmental services setting.
• A post-secondary certificate in Water Quality or a related environmental services field.
• Familiarity with laboratory testing services and scientific terminology related to microbiology and chemistry.
• Understanding of Laboratory Quality Assurance standards, Health & Safety policies, purchasing processes, and records management.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, plus familiarity with LIMS, FIMS, RIM, and HCM systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
