Join a national organization dedicated to advancing Canada's digital research infrastructure and helping researchers across every academic discipline access the technology and support they need to drive innovation. This is an opportunity to contribute to infrastructure that powers world-class research while working alongside highly skilled technical professionals across the country.
As a Senior Systems Administrator, you will provide technical leadership for mission-critical infrastructure supporting nationally distributed storage and compute services. Working in a collaborative, multi-stakeholder environment, you will help shape scalable, secure, and reliable platforms that enable research excellence and long-term service sustainability.
What’s In It for You
Be part of an organization with a meaningful national mandate where your work directly supports research and innovation across Canada. You'll collaborate with experienced technical leaders, contribute to modern infrastructure initiatives, and work in a culture that values knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and innovation, all while enjoying the flexibility of a fully remote role.
Your Responsibilities
• You'll provide senior technical leadership for core infrastructure platforms, ensuring secure, scalable, and highly available services.
• You'll design, deploy, and continuously improve containerized compute environments, distributed storage platforms, and supporting infrastructure.
• You'll develop automation and infrastructure-as-code solutions using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Git, and scripting technologies.
• You'll lead complex platform upgrades, migrations, incident response, and service recovery activities while driving operational excellence.
• You'll collaborate with infrastructure, security, architecture, user support, and research data management teams to deliver reliable services.
• You'll mentor technical colleagues, lead cross-functional initiatives, and contribute to platform roadmaps and long-term infrastructure planning.
Skills and Qualifications
• 7 to 10 years of progressive experience designing, implementing, and supporting complex infrastructure platforms in large-scale or distributed environments.
• Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Computational Science, or a related discipline.
• Hands-on expertise with Kubernetes, Ceph, or comparable enterprise-scale infrastructure platforms.
• Strong knowledge of Linux systems administration, networking, virtualization, storage technologies, distributed systems, and infrastructure security.
• Experience with automation, infrastructure-as-code, and configuration management using Ansible, Terraform, Git, scripting languages, or equivalent technologies.
• Experience supporting highly available, mission-critical production environments, with strong troubleshooting, communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience supporting research computing, digital research infrastructure, higher education, public sector, high-performance computing, or distributed storage environments is considered an asset.
