Accounting Analyst

Location: Ottawa, ON, Hybrid (3 days per week in office) or Remote

Language: Excellent written and verbal English communication skills are required.

Background Check Requirement: Government of Canada Reliability Status security clearance is required (ability to obtain)

 

About the Opportunity

Our client, a well-established public sector organization, is seeking an Accounting Analyst to join its Accounting Operations team on a contract basis. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a collaborative, service-focused environment where accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement are valued.

You'll support critical accounts receivable and invoicing activities that help ensure smooth financial operations across the organization. Working alongside experienced finance professionals, you'll contribute to essential accounting processes while helping strengthen internal controls and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.

Your Responsibilities

• You'll process customer invoices, settlement transactions, and accounts receivable activities while maintaining accurate financial records.
• You'll reconcile account balances, investigate discrepancies, and resolve payment and processing issues.
• You'll monitor shared finance inboxes, respond to inquiries, and ensure timely resolution of requests.
• You'll support monthly, quarterly, and year-end reconciliations, reporting, and financial analysis.
• You'll help maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with established accounting policies and procedures.
• You'll identify opportunities to improve financial processes and assist with testing, documentation, and implementation of system enhancements.

 

Skills and Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience in accounting operations, accounts receivable, or a related finance role.
• Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
• Solid understanding of general accounting principles, financial statements, and internal controls.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with advanced Microsoft Excel experience.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently and collaboratively.
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 is considered an asset.
