About the Opportunity
Atura Power is one of Ontario's largest fleet operators of combined cycle natural gas plants, delivering reliable electricity today while investing in the future of energy through battery storage and other emerging technologies. As Director, Environment & External Affairs, you will lead the organization's environmental strategy, regulatory affairs, Indigenous Relations, and stakeholder engagement efforts, helping protect Atura Power's license to operate while enabling continued growth across its operating assets and development portfolio.
This is a highly strategic leadership role for someone who is equally comfortable navigating environmental regulations, government relationships, and complex stakeholder environments. Supported by a strong team of technical experts, you will serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, shaping regulatory strategy, guiding environmental permitting, and building trusted relationships with Indigenous communities, government agencies, and key external partners.

Your Responsibilities
• You'll lead Atura Power's environmental strategy, providing executive oversight for permitting, regulatory compliance, environmental risk, and governance across operating facilities and development projects
• You'll serve as the organization's senior representative with government ministries, regulators, Indigenous communities, municipalities, and external stakeholders, building trusted relationships that support long-term success
• You'll develop strategic approaches to complex environmental permitting and regulatory matters, balancing operational priorities with evolving public, regulatory, and community expectations
• You'll champion Indigenous Relations and stakeholder engagement strategies that strengthen partnerships, advance reconciliation commitments, and foster long-term community confidence
• You'll provide executive guidance on enterprise risk, environmental stewardship, and external affairs, helping navigate high-profile issues with sound judgment, diplomacy, and credibility
• You'll mentor and support experienced leaders across Environment, Health & Safety, Indigenous Relations, and Stakeholder Engagement, ensuring strong alignment while empowering technical teams to deliver operational excellence
Skills and Qualifications
• 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in environmental management, regulatory affairs, environmental permitting, or a related discipline within a highly regulated industry, preferably energy, utilities, or major infrastructure
• Demonstrated success leading complex environmental permitting and regulatory approval strategies for industrial or energy operations
• Experience building credibility with regulators, government ministries, Indigenous communities, municipalities, and external stakeholders
• Strong knowledge of Ontario's environmental regulatory framework, including permitting, compliance, and environmental risk management
• Experience supporting both operating assets and capital or development projects, with familiarity in battery energy storage systems (BESS), renewable energy, or other emerging generation technologies considered an asset
• Proven ability to navigate politically sensitive issues with diplomacy, resilience, and strong business judgment while balancing diverse stakeholder interests
• Exceptional communication, executive presence, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence across technical, operational, and executive audiences
