Job Description

Location: Ottawa, ON, Hybrid, primarily on-site with flexibility based on operational needs

Language: Bilingual, English and French, with strong written and spoken communication skills in both languages

Duration: 1-year fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension

Background Check Requirement: Successful completion of an Enhanced Police Information Check (E-PIC) is required.

 

About the Opportunity

Our client, a well-established not-for-profit organization, is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer to provide strategic financial leadership during a maternity leave coverage. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, you will play a key role in shaping financial strategy, supporting executive decision making, and ensuring sound financial stewardship across a diverse portfolio of operations.

This is an opportunity to work alongside a collaborative senior leadership team while leading an experienced finance department. You'll partner with a variety of stakeholders, including community leaders, and help guide long-term financial planning in a mission-driven environment where thoughtful leadership and strong relationships make a meaningful impact.

Your Responsibilities

  • You'll lead the organization's financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and multi-year financial strategy.
  • You'll provide timely financial reporting and present meaningful insights to senior leadership and governing committees.
  • You'll strengthen financial controls, governance practices, and regulatory compliance across the organization.
  • You'll oversee audit activities, risk management initiatives, and the ongoing development of financial policies and procedures.
  • You'll mentor and support a team of finance professionals while fostering collaboration and accountability.
  • You'll build trusted relationships with internal stakeholders across multiple locations, including occasional travel to community sites.

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • 6+ years of progressive senior financial leadership experience.
  • CPA designation in good standing and a university degree in Commerce, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial controls, budgeting, audits, and financial reporting.
  • Experience within the not-for-profit sector is considered a strong asset, although candidates with a blend of private and not-for-profit experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Professional working proficiency in both English and French, including the ability to communicate effectively in writing and conversation.
  • Proven leadership, strategic planning, stakeholder management, and team development experience.
  • Comfortable working within a faith-based organizational environment and engaging respectfully with diverse community stakeholders.
