Job Description

Systems Designer – Infrastructure & Database

Location: Gatineau, QC (Hybrid – 2 days onsite per week)

Language: English required for written and spoken communication. French is an asset.

About the Opportunity

Join a technology-driven telecommunications organization where you'll help design reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure and database solutions that support mission-critical customer environments.

This is an intermediate-level Systems Designer role focused on translating customer and business requirements into practical technical designs. Rather than supporting existing systems alone, you'll work with engineering, technical, and service teams to design, qualify, integrate, and validate complex telecommunications systems, business applications, and infrastructure solutions.

If you enjoy solving technical challenges, designing solutions from the ground up, and working across databases, networking, virtualization, and Windows infrastructure, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful technical impact.

What's In It for You

You'll join a collaborative engineering team that values curiosity, innovation, continuous learning, and technical problem solving.

This role provides exposure to a broad mix of technologies including databases, Windows infrastructure, virtualization, networking, telecommunications systems, and emerging technologies. Every project presents a new technical challenge—from designing database reports for one customer to qualifying new hardware or integrating third-party technologies for another.

Your Responsibilities

  • Translate customer and business requirements into scalable infrastructure and database designs.
  • Contribute to system architecture, product prototyping, and solution design from concept through implementation.
  • Analyze system specifications and develop qualification plans, test cases, and technical design documentation.
  • Design, integrate, qualify, and validate third-party hardware, software, and complex system components.
  • Design database reports and support data analysis to meet customer and operational requirements.
  • Develop technical documentation, implementation procedures, and operational support materials.
  • Troubleshoot complex customer issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term technical solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, technical, and service teams to deliver reliable, customer-focused solutions.
  • Evaluate new technologies and continuously improve existing system designs and engineering practices.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Systems Design, Systems Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related technical environment.
  • Experience translating technical or business requirements into system designs and implementation plans.
  • Experience producing technical documentation, qualification plans, and test cases.
  • Experience with database technologies including PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MariaDB.
  • Experience designing database reports and working with data analysis.
  • Understanding of database replication, backup/restore, and failover concepts.
  • Strong experience with Windows Server 2016+ and enterprise Windows environments.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Proxmox.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP and OSI Layer 2/Layer 3 concepts.
  • Experience with server hardware, debugging, troubleshooting, and systems integration.
  • Experience with Active Directory, PowerShell, Bash, Docker, Kubernetes, or Ansible is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Linux (RHEL, Debian, etc.) is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • A passion for learning new technologies and working across a diverse range of infrastructure, database, and networking solutions.
