About the Opportunity
Our client, a respected organization in the education and non-profit sector, is seeking an experienced and collaborative Finance Manager to lead key accounting operations and support the overall financial health of the organization. This role is ideal for a hands-on finance professional who enjoys balancing technical accounting responsibilities with team leadership, process improvement, and cross-functional collaboration.
Working closely with the Controller and finance team, you’ll play a critical role in overseeing accounts payable operations, financial reporting, reconciliations, and month-end activities while supporting projects that enhance operational efficiency across the organization. Your Responsibilities
- In this role, you’ll oversee the accounts payable function, reviewing invoices, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- You’ll provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and support to accounts payable staff while monitoring service quality and workflow efficiency.
- You’ll lead month-end and year-end accounting processes, including reconciliations, audit preparation, working papers, and financial reporting support.
- You’ll collaborate with internal departments to implement process improvements, system enhancements, and finance-related projects that support operational excellence.
- You’ll manage banking activity approvals, cash deposit postings, and account reconciliations while ensuring strong internal controls are maintained.
- You’ll support the Controller with budgeting activities, audit coordination, and regulatory compliance requirements, including sales tax and reporting obligations.
- You’ll help strengthen financial processes by identifying opportunities for efficiency, accuracy, and continuous improvement across the finance function.
Skills and Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, preferably within a non-profit, charitable, or educational environment.
- CPA designation required.
- Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and financial reporting processes.
- Experience supervising or mentoring finance staff, with demonstrated leadership and team collaboration skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong experience working with Dynamics 365 Business Central or similar ERP systems.
- Strong understanding of sales tax regulations, accounting procedures, and financial compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines effectively.
