About the Opportunity
A respected public sector organization in British Columbia is seeking a Senior Financial Services Specialist to lead a high-performing financial services team and support key organizational priorities. Reporting to senior financial leadership, you will play a critical role in financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, and process improvement initiatives across the organization. You’ll work closely with internal departments, leadership teams, and external stakeholders while helping strengthen financial operations that support long-term organizational growth and service excellence.

Your Responsibilities
• You’ll oversee the daily operations and leadership of the Financial Services Specialist team, including coaching, development, and performance management
• In this role, you’ll manage key financial services functions including grant administration, debt management, capital asset accounting, and developer-related financial processes
• You’ll lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial processes while supporting statutory reporting and audit preparation
• You’ll prepare annual financial statements, assist with operating and capital budgets, and support compliance with Public Sector Accounting Standards
• You’ll provide strategic financial advice, training, and process guidance to departments across the organization
• In this role, you’ll contribute to financial system enhancements, process improvements, and cross-functional organizational projects
• You’ll prepare reports and presentations for senior leadership and Council while supporting informed financial decision-making
Skills and Qualifications
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience within a unionized environment
• 5+ years of leadership or supervisory experience managing teams and operational priorities
• CPA designation and undergraduate degree in Commerce or a related discipline
• Strong knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards, internal controls, and municipal financial regulations
• Advanced Excel skills along with ERP and financial systems experience
• Exceptional communication, analytical, and presentation skills with the ability to support senior leadership and stakeholders
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and strong professional judgement
