Location: Toronto or Windsor, ON (Hybrid, 2 days onsite)
Language: English, strong written and verbal communication required
Duration: 6-month contract with strong potential for extension to 12 months or conversion to permanent
Background Check Requirement: Criminal and credit check, employment verification, and references required

About the Opportunity
This is a critical opportunity to step into a high-impact payroll role within a large, complex Canadian organization in the insurance sector. Supporting a workforce of approximately 2,000 employees, you will play a key role in ensuring payroll continuity during an important leave coverage period, with the potential to extend your impact longer term.

You will work closely with People Operations, Finance, and Audit teams in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ownership-driven positions and is confident managing payroll end-to-end while contributing to ongoing system improvements, including a transition toward Workday.

Your Responsibilities
• You’ll manage end-to-end biweekly payroll for approximately 2,000 employees across Canada
• You’ll oversee payroll processing, approvals, reconciliations, and year-end activities including T4s
• You’ll ensure compliance across multiple jurisdictions, including Quebec and unionized environments
• You’ll partner with Finance to support GL postings and payroll-related reporting
• You’ll contribute to system configuration and optimization as the organization transitions toward Workday

Skills and Qualifications
• 5+ years of Canadian payroll experience in complex environments
• Strong expertise in multi-jurisdiction payroll, including Quebec
• Experience supporting unionized workforce payroll
• Hands-on experience with payroll systems such as Workday (required) and Avanti (nice to have)
• Proven ability to operate independently and manage full-cycle payroll
• Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships across teams
