About the Opportunity

We are partnering with a national research and innovation organization seeking a Contract Review Specialist to support a short term project during a parental leave. This role plays a key part in advancing a high priority initiative focused on building a centralized obligations register across a large volume of contracts and agreements, including funding agreements, memorandums of understanding, NDAs, and collaborative agreements.

In this role, you will review each agreement with meticulous attention to detail, interpret contractual clauses, and translate obligations into clear, actionable statements that can be assigned to the appropriate internal teams. You will work closely with a senior paralegal and members of the grants team to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance as the organization strengthens its contract literacy and operational clarity.

What’s in it for You

You will join a collaborative environment that values precision, learning, and supportive mentorship. This project offers the opportunity to make meaningful progress on an important organizational initiative, working alongside experienced legal and grants professionals. You will gain exposure to a wide variety of contract types and strengthen skills in contract interpretation, compliance, and structured information management.

Your Responsibilities

  • You will conduct a systematic review of all existing contracts, extracting obligations, deadlines, restrictions, reporting requirements, and compliance terms.
  • You will translate contractual clauses into operational statements for inclusion in a centralized obligations register.
  • You will build a library of standard clause types, interpretations, and corresponding obligations to support organizational consistency.
  • You will support the development of workflows for monitoring, ownership, and ongoing maintenance of obligations.
  • You will collaborate with the Contract Management and Compliance team on administrative tasks, documentation updates, and tracking needs.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Mid level experience reviewing and interpreting contracts, ideally within grants administration, research administration, compliance, or a comparable field.
  • Demonstrated ability to extract and summarize compliance obligations, deadlines, and reporting requirements.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Clear and concise written communication skills, particularly in plain language summarization.
  • Experience working with legal teams, paralegals, or contract administrators is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with multiple points of contact.
