Type: 7-Month Contract, Possibility of Extension
Location: Ottawa
Our client in the education/non-profit sector is seeking an experienced Controller for a 7-month contract, with the possibility of extension. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical abilities, and an empathetic leadership style. This role is well-suited for someone who communicates clearly, works with integrity, and can confidently oversee day-to-day financial operations while supporting strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily financial operations, including accounting functions, payroll, general ledger maintenance, and preparation of quarterly financial reports
- Lead the year-end audit process, including working papers, financial statements, and coordination with external auditors
- Administer financial systems, manage fiscal periods, and identify opportunities to improve processes and reporting accuracy
- Provide strategic financial analysis, modeling, and insights to support leadership decision-making
- Manage tax-related activities, including HST reporting, rebate claims, and year-end tax receipt distribution
- Support contract negotiations with major suppliers and manage special financial projects as required
- Lead, develop, and support the Finance team
Qualifications- CPA designation
- 5+ years of finance/accounting experience
- Experience in a not-for-profit organization
- Demonstrated ability to lead with a high degree of empathy
- Knowledge of Dayforce and Multiview ERP
- Experience in the education sector
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
