About the Opportunity

We are partnering with a community-focused non-profit organization in West Toronto to recruit a Director of Finance, a key leadership role that will help shape the future of a recently amalgamated operation. This organization is in the midst of significant transformation, bringing together multiple legacy entities into a single structure. As the new Director, you will play a central role in strengthening the financial foundation, guiding change, and supporting the evolution toward streamlined, modernized practices.

Reporting to a supportive and highly technical VP of Corporate Services, you will lead a growing finance team and help drive a culture built on collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a public-serving organization that is rebuilding its systems, enhancing consistency, and aligning processes across multiple sites and teams.

What’s in it for You

You will join a workplace that values transparency, continuous learning, and shared commitment to improvement. With a VP who provides hands-on support and mentorship, you will have a leader who understands the work, welcomes ideas, and empowers you to challenge the status quo.

This is also a rare opportunity to leave your mark on a rebuilding phase, contributing to smoother workflows, stronger controls, and a more unified culture. The benefits package is exceptional, offering HOOPP participation, fully paid benefits including LTD, generous vacation, and additional paid professional development and wellness days.

Your Responsibilities

  • You will lead a six-person finance team, set expectations, support performance, and coach staff through change.
  • In this role, you will oversee budgeting, forecasting, planning, and full-cycle financial reporting.
  • You will guide the development and execution of financial strategies that support organizational goals.
  • You will manage audits, ensure compliance with standards, and oversee internal controls and financial policies.
  • You will navigate legacy processes, introduce modernized practices, and help shift mindsets across the organization.
  • You will oversee AP, AR, payroll, general ledger functions, and cash flow management across multiple sites.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive finance experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role within the non-profit or public sector
  • CPA designation required
  • Strong technical expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, and strategic planning
  • Proficiency in GP Dynamics is essential
  • Solid understanding of Public Sector Accounting Standards
  • Ability to lead through ambiguity, navigate resistance, and influence change
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and stakeholder management skills

Note from the Hiring Manager
