Job Description
We’re excited to be assisting our client, a respected non-profit organization serving communities in West Toronto, in the search for a Director of Finance. This is a permanent role and is primarily in office in West Toronto.
About the Role:
Reporting to the VP of Corporate Services, the Director of Finance will lead the finance team and oversee all aspects of financial strategy, planning, and reporting. This position plays a vital role in ensuring operational efficiency, financial compliance, and informed decision-making at the leadership level.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead daily operations of the finance department and manage staff performance
- Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with organizational goals
- Oversee the preparation of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, and planning processes
- Monitor financial performance, identify risks/opportunities, and provide recommendations
- Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards
- Oversee accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions
- Manage external and internal audits
- Maintain banking relationships and cash flow management
- Develop and implement financial policies and internal controls
- Mentor and support finance staff in professional growth
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
- CPA designation or equivalent preferred
- Minimum 5 years of progressive finance experience, including 2+ years in a leadership role within the non-profit or public sector
- Strong knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS)
- Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and strategic planning
- Familiarity with GP Dynamics required
- Skilled in managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines
- Knowledge of primary health care or mental health sectors considered an asset
