Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Data Scientist to lead the development of an individual-level microsimulation model to support health system capacity planning, with a particular focus on seniors and continuing care services.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in health analytics, simulation modeling, and interdisciplinary collaboration, who is passionate about using data to inform health policy and service planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain microsimulation or agent-based models representing patient flows through various health and long-term care settings

  • Use open-source simulation frameworks (e.g., SimPy, mesa, simpyLC in Python; OpenM++, SimYouLate, SimPaths in R) to implement models

  • Integrate demographic, clinical, and pathway data to simulate life-course transitions of older adults through home care, inpatient, and community-based services

  • Conduct model validation, calibration, and sensitivity analyses to ensure accuracy and policy relevance

  • Perform scenario analysis to evaluate the impact of different care policies or resource allocation strategies

  • Work closely with clinicians, policy analysts, and data scientists to ensure the model is grounded in real-world data

  • Communicate results through clear visualizations, reports, and briefings for technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Maintain clear documentation and version control of code, model logic, and parameters

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in health systems research, public health analytics, or health data science

  • Proven experience building and maintaining microsimulation or agent-based models

  • Proficiency in Python or R, and experience using simulation frameworks such as SimPy, mesa, OpenM++, or similar

  • Deep understanding of healthcare system structure, especially long-term and seniors’ care

  • Strong background in quantitative methods, including model validation and sensitivity testing

  • Ability to translate technical outputs into actionable insights and policy implications

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

Nice to Have:

  • Experience working in public sector, healthcare consulting, or academic health policy research

  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, ggplot2, matplotlib)

  • Experience working in interdisciplinary research environments
